Let's Talk about SELF CARE

Self-Care, defined as any activity done deliberately, in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it’s a simple concept in theory, it’s something that is often overlooked. Good self-care is the key to a good relationship with oneself and others as well as improved mood and reduced anxiety. *

I am often asked about my weight loss journey which began at 326 pounds, my heaviest weight to date. I was the kind of overweight that is literally too large to wrap your mind around. Honestly, I didn’t really focus on losing half my body size, I began to focus on self-care which is how I actually I lost the weight.

“All of those small victories, to build up to give me something to really shout about.”

So, I began to focus on something smaller and more manageable, like my skin. I just loved and focused on my skin. You can imagine all of the steps, regimens, and the level of patience one must have to commit to this. Eventually, I started getting compliments, my confidence grew, and so did the desire to be more active. My skin began to improve, and the pounds started to shed. These small victories, really gave me something to shout about.While I was losing weight, although not realizing it, this was giving me the tools for a life changing foundation in self-care.

“I think we spend so much time taking care of others, we don’t take time to take care of ourselves.”

We each have a responsibility to share our stories; you never know who’s on the other side of your testimony. When people see me, they would congratulate me on little improvements as I was transitioning, now it’s difficult for me to even see where I came from versus where I started. If you’re someone who has a large undertaking, be it weight loss or debt, remember it’s one pound at a time, it’s one dollar at time. If you slip, you always have another opportunity to get it right. Just celebrate, set your self-goals, and know that life is not a race, it’s a marathon.

Get excited for anything coming your way, and to K.I.M. (Keep It Moving) in the direction of endless possibilities!
